Submit your site to these free web directories

Having your website listed in a web directory can be a good way to drive additional traffic to your site. It’s easy to do, as well. It usually takes just a few minutes, and requires just some basic information about your site, like the URL, what category or sub-category it belongs under, and a brief description of the purpose of your site.

The main benefit of adding your site to a directory is that it provides a back link to your site, which is SEO gold. A link to your site from another site counts as a “vote” for your site, and the more votes you have, the higher your ranking will be in the search results. Additionally, you can tell these directories what text, and therefore what target keywords, you would like to use to link back to your site. This is usually called “Site Title” in the submission of your site, but it does not have to be the same as the title that you use in the head tag of you site’s html.

Search engines, supposedly, will also index your site more quickly when your site is submitted to a directory, because search engines actually crawl these directories first, looking for any new or changed links. This could be an alternative to submitting your site directly to the search engines themselves.
